The City will unveil a series of youth development programmes this month to commemorate the sacrifice made by the Youth of 1976 and ensure that youth are fully integrated into the mainstream economy.
EThekwini Mayor Cllr James Nxumalo recognises the role played by sport in building and in achieving a caring, united and socially cohesive City.
The Municipality has also established the Youth Development Office as part of the Mayoral programme to ensure that young people contribute in driving the City’s economic growth and development.
Under the theme: “Changing people’s lives through radical economic transformation and accelerated service delivery” on Thursday, 11 June 2015, the Mayor will launch the Mayoral Cup at the Moses Mabhida Stadium comprising of the Football and Netball sporting codes.
The event is aimed at encouraging young people to be actively involved in arts, culture, sports, recreation and heritage to create a social cohesive society.
The initiative which will be conducted in three phases will start with the launch, followed by the Ward and Zonal competitions in all 103 Wards in 17 Zones as well as the Grand Finale which will be held at the King Zwelithini Stadium next year.
