The eThekwini Municipality wishes to clarify the circumstances surrounding the temporary closure of the Musgrave and Windermere libraries following concerns raised in a circulating video.
The closure is a result of property owners experiencing challenges in complying with the Municipality’s Supply Chain Management requirements. This non-compliance affected the continuation of services at the two facilities, necessitating their closure.
The Municipality acknowledges the inconvenience this may cause to library users and assures residents that alternative library services remain available in surrounding areas.
Members of the public can access library services at Umbilo Library, City Hall Library, Dr AB Xuma Street Library, and the Beach Library at OR Tambo Parade. Residents may also make use of any other public library located within the eThekwini municipal boundaries.
Furthermore, the Municipality provides Housebound Library Services to members of the public who are unable to access libraries due to their circumstances. This service caters for elderly and frail members of the community, as well as institutions such as frail-care centres and orphanages.
The Municipality remains committed to ensuring that residents have continued access to library and information services and will continue to explore appropriate measures to minimise disruptions to service delivery.
Residents are encouraged to make use of the available alternative facilities and services while the matter is being addressed.
