EThekwini Municipality officially unveiled the second edition of the eThekwini Gospel Music Crescendos Choir yesterday, 14 June, during an event held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre.
The event marked another milestone in the Municipality’s commitment to nurturing and developing local musical talent.
The choir comprises 22 young members who were selected through a citywide talent search and audition process.
The initiative provided aspiring gospel artists with an opportunity to showcase their talent while creating pathways towards sustainable careers in the creative industry.
The newly formed choir captivated audiences with an impressive debut live-recording performance. The venue was filled to capacity as residents, gospel music enthusiasts, and supporters gathered to celebrate the unveiling of the choir.
Speaking at the live-recording ceremony, eThekwini Municipality’s Director of Recreation and Parks, Dr Simphiwe Ndlovu, said the eThekwini Gospel Music Crescendos Programme was established to identify, nurture, and empower talented young musicians through professional coaching, mentorship, and performance opportunities.
“As part of their development, the choir members have received ongoing coaching and mentorship from esteemed musicians and industry professionals who have guided them in refining their vocal abilities, stage performance, and understanding of the music industry. They were also provided with intensive rehearsals and training in preparation for this landmark live recording,” said Dr Ndlovu.
The successful launch and live recording highlighted the depth of talent within eThekwini communities and reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to investing in arts and culture as vehicles for youth development, social cohesion, and economic empowerment.
The Municipality congratulates the 22 choir members on this achievement and wishes them success as they embark on their musical journey.
The City remains committed to creating platforms that enable local artists to develop their craft and share their talents with audiences across South Africa and beyond.
