Responding Secuity Guard Fatally Shot

10 November 2014 by Alan

On Friday, 7 November 2014 Port Shepstone K9 Unit arrested a 32-year old man at Nkanini area for the killing of a security guard. The second suspect (28) was arrested in the early hours of this morning by a Task Team and was also positively connected to the murder and burglary cases. He was found in possession of a cell phone that was taken during the killing of the victim. Both suspects are expected to appear in the Ramsgate Magistrates’ Court soon facing murder and business burglary charges. Police are still looking for the outstanding suspect.

A security guard who was responding to a business burglary at Marina Beach Grassmere Road, Margate on Friday 7 November 2014 at approximately 04:30 was shot and killed by unknown suspects. It is alleged that a 45-year-old security guard, Mondli Mnyula was on duty when he was shot while in his company vehicle. He sustained gunshot wounds through his left hand and left upper chest. His firearm was taken after the shooting and the suspects fled the scene towards a banana plantation where they had hidden their getaway BMW vehicle. Later the getaway vehicle was found abandoned at Gcilima area, Margate. On investigation at the scene of crime, it appeared that the suspects broke into business premises and attempted to open an ATM machine before they allegedly shot a security guard who was responding to the burglary.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the arrest of two suspects who were linked to the murder and business burglary at Margate. She commended the Margate Task Team as well as Port Shepstone K9 Unit for working around the clock in order to bring perpetrators to book.
