Day 2- Pollock Beach, Port Elizabeth, 8 April 2017.

Luke Slijpen from Llandudno, Cape Town, had an incredible day of surfing in day two of the Nelson Mandela Bay Surf Pro presented by Billabong that took place at Pollock Beach in Port Elizabeth.

The waves were small and onshore throughout the day, but the conditions were highly contestable in all divisions, including the JQS divisions and the WQS divisions. Highlights were many and included a 9-point ride from Durban’s Davey Van Zyl in round 2 of the WQS event.

In the JQS division Slijpen along with Luke Malherbe from East London eliminated the much-vaunted reigning WSL Africa Junior Champion Adin Masencamp from Strand and the popular Angelo Faulkner from JBay. Other surfers to excel in this division were Koby Oberholzer from Warner beach, son of famous free surfer Frankie Oberholzer, and the two Elkington brothers Max and Jake from Kommetjie.

In the women’s division of the WQS event, surfers to advance through to the final day of competition from the last two days of competition include Nicole Pallet from Durban and Tayla Hanak from Australia, Faye Zoetmulder and Tarryn Chudleigh from Cape Town, Teal Hogg from uMhlanga and Crystal Hulett from St Francis Bay. Event favourite Emma Smith from JBay also advanced in second place in her respective heat.

The competition is set to finish tomorrow and the forecast looks exceptional. A large east swell is predicted to push into The Bay and although the wind continues to filter through from the east it picks up a slightly more northerly drift to it tomorrow and the temperature is predicted to soar.

The rankings points accumulated in the JQS events determine the top four men and top two women who will represent WSL Africa at the annual WSL World Junior Championships in Australia in January.

Live scoring, results, photos and video footage will be available on www.World SurfLeague.com and on the WSL App, with highlights on the WSL QS Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
