The City’s sanitation teams, engineers, and specialist technicians continue to work round the clock to restore full pumping operations following the technical failure at the Mahatma Gandhi Wastewater Pump Station.
Repair and recovery work at the pump station is progressing, with one of the station’s four pumps currently operational. While this has assisted in improving the situation, the station continues to operate at reduced capacity.
The City can confirm that all three screening systems are anticipated to be commissioned today, 25 May .
This will be followed by the phased commissioning of the remaining pumps, with the second pump scheduled for 28 May, the third pump for 30 May, and the fourth pump for 7 June.
The Municipality anticipates that the pump station will return to full operational capacity by 7 June.
All efforts are being made to expedite these timelines wherever possible.
In the meantime, the Municipality continues to deploy tankering services to assist with the removal and management of wastewater at Margaret Mncadi Avenue while repair work continues.
