The eThekwini Municipality urges residents to take precautionary measures following a Level 2 Impact-Based Warning for Damaging Winds issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) for parts of KwaZulu-Natal, including eThekwini.
The warning is in effect today, Monday 14 September 2026, from 08:00 to 23:59.
A strong high-pressure system is expected to generate strong northerly to north-easterly winds, reaching average speeds of 35 to 40 km/h with gusts of up to 80 km/h.

* Maritime Operations: Disrupted port and small-harbour activities, difficult navigation, and an increased risk of small vessels taking on water or capsizing.
* Coastal & Land Areas: Disrupted beachfront activities and potential localised structural damage to both formal and informal settlements.

Municipal emergency response teams are on high alert to clear fallen trees, remove debris, unblock stormwater infrastructure, and render immediate assistance to affected communities.
