25 February 2014 by Alan

The eThekwini Municipality is honoured to be hosting yet another major sporting event, the Orange CAF Championships match between Kaizer Chiefs vs. Liga Muculmana which will be held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 01 March 2014. Kickoff is 19H00 and the gates will open at 16H00.

The Municipality together with the Moses Mabhida Stadium management are busy with the logistical preparations to ensure that Durban hosts yet another spectacular sporting event. After all, Durban is known as Africa’s playground.

Tickets are now on sale at Computicket outlets, Shoprite and Shoprite Checkers nationwide. They cost R60 (east and west lower tier) and R50 for all other areas. Hospitality packages are also available and can be purchased directly from the stadium for your comfort and exclusive viewing pleasure.

The Municipality is very proud to host this all-important game and there is no doubt that our citizens will come out in their numbers to rally behind their favourite team and blow those vuvuzelas so that the teams on the field can absorb the necessary energy to keep those goals coming.

Liga Muculmana is expected to arrive in the City tomorrow, 26 February 2014 and will be staying at Elangeni Marahani hotel. Kaizer Chiefs FC lands at the King Shaka International Airport on Friday, 28 February 2014 at 13H30.

Durban will be abuzz with festivities and fun this weekend, as the Metro FM Awards are also being held in the City. After the game, members of the public can walk across to People’s Park where the Metro FM Awards afterparty will be held until the early hours of the morning.

EThekwini Mayor, Cllr James Nxumalo, invited all residents to be part of the festivities. “Durban is well known for its warm weather, blue skys and great hospitality. Hosting games of this magnitude helps us a great deal in positioning ourselves as Africa’s events and sporting capital. We encourage all our citizens to come out and have fun with us to prove to the world that Durban really is the warmest place to be,” he said. Nxumalo encouraged people not to wait until the last minute to buy tickets as this puts unnecessary pressure on the ticketing system.
