The Municipality’s Economic Development Committee will inspect progress in the development of the KwaMnyandu Node on Thursday 6 March 2014. The walk about is part of the Committee’s over site role and will allow members to witness the development of the mall and some of the public realm upgrades in the township that the committee has been supporting.
The development at KwaMnyandu in Umlazi serves as a catalyst to attracting investing in Umlazi’s Secondary Node; Umlazi V-section Node being the primary node.
Responsible and sustainable economic growth and job creation underpins all of eThekwini initiatives with regards growing the City’s economic base. To this end eThekwini Municipality has bought neighbouring parcels of property and re-zoned these appropriately in order to support the establish of a vibrant economic node that ensures greater convenience to the community of Umlazi.
As mentioned at the SOD Turning event in March 2013, more than 1000 in Umlazi, represented through various organisations are 40% shareholders in the catalytic KwaMnyandu Shopping Centre development.
According to the contractor’s records there has been over one million man hours of accident free construction work that has taken place on site, since the KwaMnyandu development commenced.
With the shopping centre expected to open its doors to the public at the end of May 2014, the KwaMnyandu Node is expected to attract more investment and visitors to this precinct as it has an intermodal transport facility that will allow commuters and shoppers easy access through taxis and rail.
The walk about will be followed by the Committee meeting at King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium.
