The IFP has made calls on the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, to explain to the public what steps his department is taking in addressing the acute paramedic equipment shortages in Durban.
“Paramedics have indicated that they are experiencing widespread shortages of equipment. They have complained about this to the department but their complaints are seemingly ignored. This shortage puts patients’ lives at risk, which will lead to many medical lawsuits” said Mr Velenkosini Hlabisa, IFP Provincial Secretary.
“Dr Dhlomo and his department must start taking responsibility for what is fast becoming a widespread crisis in our health system. The MEC must clarify what is being done to solve this issue and to ensure that it does not occur again in the future” said Hlabisa
The IFP calls on the MEC to conduct an audit on how many paramedics in the province are facing the challenges posed by equipment shortages.
