From the Desk of the GM

11 December 2019 by Alan

From the Desk of the GM:

It’s unbelievable to think that another year is nearing its end, and that in what seems like record time this year, but maybe that’s just because we’ve had so much going on!

Hot off the heels of the refurbishment of our @Thyme Restaurant, Lobby Lounge area, and the installation of an entirely new Bar, Royal Palm launched its Loyalty Programme, a tailor made 4-tiered programme designed to reward our regular guests, and make them feel even more at home than they currently do. The programme has been a resounding success to date, the benefits of which can been seen through the satisfaction of our repest visitors.

In March, the first phase of the Royal Palm’s ongoing environmental project begun, which saw the replacement of every single light bulb in the building – from the rooms to the parkade, the external areas and the Restaurant. This energy efficiency programme was aimed at reducing the Hotel’s electricity consumption, by almost half, without reducing the overall lighting look and feel, and it was a phenomenal success in reducing the Hotel’s carbon footprint.

While most of the country was wrapped up warmly and staying indoors this past July, Durban came alive with a host of exciting events, including The Vodacom Durban July, The Mr Ballito Pro, The Durban Boat & Lifestyle Show and the East Coast Radio House & Garden Show to name a few, which resulted in a bumper month for the Hotel.

2019 saw some staff members move on, and new teams forming to ensure greater levels of customer service, and all this without skipping a beat. Our Restaurant patio area was upgraded, to create a more welcoming and dynamic seating area, allowing guests greater comfort in our outdoor space.

From our team to you, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, and hope to see you soon.

Simon Bailey
General Manager
