South Africa’s top junior surfers are in for some big-wave surfing, as 8 foot sets roll into Jeffreys Bay – the contest venue for the Hurley SA Junior Surfing Champs 2013.
While most locals are staying indoors to hide from the 50+ km gusts of wind, provincial teams from all over the country (including KZN central and Southern KZN) are on the beach at Lower Point, Jeffreys Bay, to cheer on their team-mates taking on the big surf! The stakes are high, with the groms battling it out to claim national individual and team titles, as well as Springbok blazers.
This is one of the few times this year that the legendary waves of Jeffreys Bay have revealed themselves, and the groms are excited to have it all to themselves! The contest has seen pristine conditions so far, and according to weather forecasts the waves are only going to get better!
Nthando Msibi from Durban was one of the stand-outs on day three of the Hurley SA Junior Champs at Lower Point, Jeffreys Bay. Despite the gale force offshore wind Nthando managed some high scoring and impressive moves.
