City Hosts Family Beach Festival

3 September 2015 by Alan

As eThekwini celebrates news that the 2022 Commonwealth Games will be hosted in the City, the Municipality’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit will kick-off the festivities with a fun-filled free-entry beach festival to entertain the whole family on Saturday, 05 September 2015.

The Durban beach promenade will be divided into various sections, with each one dedicated to an exciting programme that will surely keep all members of the family enthralled.

Sports fanatics will enjoy activities such as beach volleyball, soccer and aerobics. EThekwini lifeguards will showcase their skills at the lifeguard endurance competition.

Art lovers will marvel at the sandcastle building activities and art exhibitions along the promenade.

Kiddies will be entertained with “Come and Play” equipment, ball jugglers and clowns. There will also be an edutainment corner with the Fundubhale Storytellers, mobile museum and library.

The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and eThekwini Sisters Chorale will be performing their melodic tunes. There will also be live band performances by various local artists.

The festival is not only aimed at promoting social cohesion, it is to create a platform where people of different age groups, race and culture will enjoy themselves, keep fit and learn more about services provided by the Municipality’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit.
