Chetty helps Dolphins to draw in PMB – Featured Durban Blog

Chetty helps Dolphins to draw in PMB:

Pietermaritzburg – Another fighting second innings half century from Cody Chetty helped the Hollywoodbets Dolphins to a draw against the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras in their CSA 4-Day Domestic Series match at the Pietermaritzburg Oval on Thursday.

The Cobras had batted well and put themselves in the prime position when they were bowled out for 491 in their first innings, handing them a lead of 166 runs on the final day.

With first innings centurion Grant Roelofsen picking up an injury to his finger when wicket-keeping, Smangaliso Nhlebela opened the batting with Vaughn van Jaarsveld.

Unfortunately the experiment didn’t work as Nhlebela fell for a duck and then the dangerous Marques Ackerman fell the next ball to Dane Paterson.

The Dolphins were six for two when Chetty joined Van Jaarsveld at the wicket.

The pair added 39 for the third wicket and cut into the deficit before Van Jaarsveld was caught for 37 off 39 deliveries.

Khaya Zondo fell twenty runs later, caught by the wicket keeper for eleven. Andile Phehlukwayo then added ten and Roelofsen chimed in with 13.

At the loss of Roelofsen the Dolphins were 121 for six, trailing by 45 runs.

Rob Frylinck joined the steely Chetty at the wicket and the pair erased the remaining 45 runs and then put the game beyond the reach of the Cobras.

It was a match saving partnership as their unbeaten 77 run stand put the game to bed.

Chetty finished with a patient 69 not out off 203 deliveries while Frylinck was 44 not out at the other end. The Dolphins ended on 198 for six in their second innings.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins travel to Johannesburg to face the Imperial Lions at the Imperial Wanderers from Monday 28 to Thursday 31 October.

MCC & Zingari to battle it out for Inland T20 honours:

Pietermaritzburg – The 2019/20 KZN Inland Club T20 final between Maritzburg Cricket Club and Zingari Cricket Club will take place at the Pietermaritzburg Oval under lights on Friday.

In the semi-finals Zingari took on favourites Standard Cricket Club and MCC came up against UKZN.

The first semi-final saw Zingari beat Standard by four wickets while the other semi-final went the way of MCC due to a technical issue. This sets up a final between the two under dogs for this Friday.

Coming into the game, Zingari CC might be seen as the underdogs due to them not being in a final in the last two years. However, with the experience and leadership of Lyndon Brown, you will not underestimate them and certainly they can go all the way and lift the T20 trophy.

MCC have a new look to their team from last season. Having gone through a transition, the team comes into the final with confidence. Having made a few crucial signings in the off season the team looks to be covered in all facets with the experience of Chase Strachan in the bowling department, returning from overseas. Well lead by James Greenwood, MCC will be looking to add their first trophy of the season come Friday.

The big clash takes place on Friday 25th October 2019 at the PMB Oval. The scheduled start is 18h30 and entrance is free.

Come out in your numbers and let’s support local club cricket and we can all enjoy the wonderful evening at this iconic venue.
