Arrests made of Kwamashu Security Guard killers

20 November 2014 by Alan

Quick reaction by KwaMashu Tracing Team Unit and Cato Manor SAPS members led to the arrest of four suspects who were allegedly involved in the killing of a security guard at KwaMashu area on Tuesday, 18 November 2018 during a robbery.

The members received information that the suspects were on their way to collect one of their friends from Inkosi Albert Luthuli hospital who was admitted for gunshot wounds. While inside the hospital premises, the police saw a suspicious-looking VW Caddy fitting the same description given to them and they attempted to intercept the vehicle. It is alleged that the suspects fled away knocking down the boom gate. Their vehicle further collided with another vehicle which was at the robot on the main road. All three suspects who were in their vehicle were arrested and detained for murder, attempted murder and armed robbery. One of the suspects sustained a broken leg as a result of the collision and was taken to hospital under police guard. The members also arrested the fourth suspect who was already in hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. All arrested suspects aged between 29 and 36 are due to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrates’ Court soon.

On 18 November 2014 at approximately 10:00, Sibusiso Stanley Ngema (45) of Enforce Security Company was shot and killed at E section next to Zulu Road in KwaMashu. It is alleged that two security guards were on duty standing outside their company vehicle when they were accosted by a group of unknown suspects. The suspects opened fire towards them fatally wounding one and the second guard escaped unharmed. Their firearms were taken away from them before the suspects fled the scene. It is believed that one suspect was shot and injured during the shooting and managed to escape with his friends. A case of murder, attempted murder and armed robbery was opened at KwaMashu police station for further investigation. The KwaMashu Tracing Team started their investigation in search for the suspects. Last night their efforts yielded results when they traced the suspects to Inkosi Albert Luthuli hospital where they were all arrested.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni praised the speedy apprehension of the suspects. “The quick reaction of KwaMashu Tracing Team and Cato Manor police is commended. This shows our commitment in the fight against crime during this festive season,” she said.
