Where to spend a White Weekend

4 June 2015 by Alan

Pietermaritzburg – The staff at the Sani Mountain Lodge are expecting a white weekend, after the first snowfall of winter on Thursday.

Ideally placed on the Lesotho border with KwaZulu-Natal, the lodge on Thursday morning reported light snowfall with “more on the way”.

Manager Brett Hoy said snow had been falling since Thursday morning and showed no signs of abating.

“As we speak right now the snow is falling and judging by the way the wind is blowing and from where we get our snowfalls this won’t be the last of it,” he said.

Hoy said that the ground temperature was still relatively high.

“With the ground temperature still a couple of degrees off the zero mark the snow is melting but the temperature looks to be dropping,” he said.

“I think it is going to get a bit heavier and if this keeps up we will have a white day tomorrow [Friday]. When I woke up this morning it was -11 degrees,” he said.
