Go Nutz College Rovers pulled off one of their finest and most important victories in decades to earn a place in the semi-finals of the National Club Championship and an opportunity to be the first club in KZN to hold the Gold Cup up high. They travelled to Cape Town to face Tygerberg on their home turf at Florida Park in their all important quarter final game to keep their chances alive and returned victorious.
What made this victory that much more special was the fact that after last weeks disappointing result, which saw Direct Axis False Bay stealing a 15-14 win on time against the KZNRU champion club, it was always going to be difficult to come back and lift themselves from the disappointment. Instead of finishing top of their Pool ‘D’ for a home quarter final they had to travel to Cape Town as the runners up.In the end they travelled into unknown territory where the support base was around 5,000 and screaming for home side. Amidst the hostile and intimidating home support, It certainly wasn’t an easy envirment to play in but they managed to survive.
It was the first time that these two sides had met with Rovers showing great character to come back from their disappointing result the week before and take the honors 27-23 in front the noisy and verbal support base for one of their finest victories that will no doubt give them a lot more confidence going into their semi final game against the Quins Bobbies RFC in Pretoria this weekend. It was a particularly moral boosting victory in every sense of the word.
False Bay will meet Rustenburg Impala on their home grounds in Constantia in their semi final and Rovers travel to Pretoria to meet QBR.Locally in what was a fabulous game of running rugby, which was another wonderful advert for the game, the Sharks Clubs XV beat a Platteland Clubs XV 88-36 after leading 33-3 at half time. Full marks to the Platteland XV for coming back so well in the second half with flyhalf Jors Dannhauser still showing touches of class, wings Charlie Dube and Tokazani Mduli both looking full of running and seeing former Sharks Under 20 lock Waldo Herbst back in action.
