Water Supply Restrictions

The eThekwini Municipality wishes to inform the public that, due to ongoing operational challenges at the Durban Heights Water Treatment Works, Reservoir 1 has been isolated to allow the technical team to insert a camera into the pipeline for inspection.

As a direct consequence, Reservoir 2 is running at critically low levels, as it is currently supplying the zones normally served by Reservoir 1.

This reduced hydraulic capacity is now impacting the entire Southern Aqueduct bulk water supply system, including the Pinetown South System, resulting in reduced water pressure and supply interruptions in downstream areas.

The following areas are affected:

Central Region

  • Northdene 1 & 2 Reservoir: Farningham Ridge, Hillary, Malvern, Mount Vernon, Queensburgh, Queensmead Industrial and Shallcross.
  • Firwood Reservoir: Farningham Ridge, Malvern, Moseley Park, Mount Vernon, Nirvana Hills, Northdene and Queensburgh.
  • Ridley Park Reservoir: Coedmore, Farningham Ridge, Hillary, Malvern, Memorial Park, Mount Vernon, Queensburgh, Umbilo, Umhlatuzana and Umkhumbane.
  • Chatsworth 4 Reservoir: Arena Park, Bulbul, Chatsworth Town Centre, Crossmoor, Enhlanzeni, Ezinyathini, Klaarwater, KwaMgaga, Montford, Moorton, Phumphele, Risecliff, Shallcross, Silverglen, Welbedacht East, Welbedacht West, Westcliff and Woodhurst.
  • Shallcross Reservoir: Buffels Bosch, Burlington Heights, Moseley Park, Queensburgh, Savannah Park and Shallcross.
  • Harinagar Reservoir: Shallcross.
  • Klaarwater Reservoir: Crossmoor, Klaarwater, Moorton, Moseley Park, Phumphele, Savannah Park, Shallcross and St. Wendolin’s Ridge.
  • Chatsworth 1 Reservoir: Bayview, Bulbul, Croftdene, Havenside, Kharwastan, Phumphele, Silverglen, Umhlatuzana, Westcliff and Woodhurst.
  • Chatsworth 2 Reservoir: Arena Park, Bayview, Chatsworth Town Centre, Havenside, Kharwastan, Malvern, Phumphele, Silverglen, Umhlatuzana, Westcliff and Woodhurst.
  • Chatsworth 3 Reservoir: Arena Park, Chatsworth Town Centre, Croftdene, Montford, Risecliff, Silverglen, Welbedacht West and Westcliff.
  • Westcliff Reservoir: Bayview, Coedmore, Havenside, Phumphele, Umhlatuzana, Woodhurst, Woodlands and Yellowwood Park.

South Region

  • Umlazi 1/1A Reservoir: Umlazi Sections A, B, C, D, E, F, S, T, U, V, X (Malukazi) and Y.
  • ?Umlazi 2 Reservoir: Umlazi M,L, J, K, H, R, Q, P, BB, CC, AA, F, G, W, C, D and N sections.
  • Umlazi 3 Reservoir: Umlazi Sections J, K and L.
  • Umlazi 4 Reservoir: Umlazi Sections X (Malukazi), Y and Z.
  • Umlazi 5 Reservoir: Umlazi Sections AA, BB and Z.
  • Umlazi 6 Reservoir: Umlazi Sections AA, BB and CC.
  • Ensimbini 1 & 2 Reservoirs: Ensimbini, Ntabankulu, Draaihoek, Mahlabathini, Mangamazini and Mkhazini.
  • Folweni 1 & 2 Reservoirs: Folweni Sections A, B and C, Golokodo, Dodoza and Isiphingo Esincane.

Pinetown South System

  • N Pump Station: Klaarwater, Phumphele, St. Wendolin’s area, parts of Nsizwakazi, Savannah Park Phases 1 and 2, and the Wiltshire industrial area.
  • Washington Heights (Reservoir P): Klaarwater, Nsizwakazi, Regency Park, Latana, Hlanganisa, Gwala Road (Nsizwakazi) and Sarjoo Road.
  • Intake Reservoir (Reservoir Q): Demat, Progress Road, Mawelewele, Intake Road, Luganda, parts of Nagina Township, Khoseleni, Sthundu Hills, Dambuza, parts of Bell Tower Road, Grasmere Road and Mpongo Road.
