Vegans can now boost their immune system and fight against Covid-19

Vegans can now boost their immune system and fight against Covid-19:

The Harvest Table Vegan Collagen

The Harvest Table launches new Vegan Collagen

Concerns about animal welfare, healthy eating and climate change has inspired the popularity of veganism, not only countries like the Australia, the United Kingdom and Sweden, but in South Africa too! In fact, according to a study by food blog, Chef’s Pencil, South Africa ranks among the world’s 25 nations where veganism is most popular. Moreover, Google Trends show that the interest level for veganism in South Africa is at its highest level ever.

The rise in this new lifestyle trend does however reduce the number of options available in terms of healthy supplementation. Collagen, for example, which is used to boost the immune system, reduce joint pain, help a leaky gut, improve liver, hands, skin and nail health and increase your metabolism is not traditionally Vegan-friendly. In fact, according to Catherine Clark, Owner and Founder of The Harvest Table, collagen is a protein found mostly in hair, skin, nails, bones, and ligaments and therefore comes mostly from animal sources, such as beef or fish.

Catherine adds that regardless of diet or lifestyle choice, she believes that collagen is an absolute must in every diet, “33% of our bodies are made up of collagen however this decreases as we get older thanks in part to environmental factors, such as sun exposure and pollution, making daily supplementation is essential. Furthermore with the introduction of COVID-19, boosting our immune system has never been more critical.”

She says that none of us can completely eliminate our risk of getting the coronavirus, but one thing we can do is take the necessary precautions. “If we do catch COVID-19, our immune system is responsible for fighting it. Keeping strong and healthy and strengthening our defence against the global pandemic is paramount.”

Catherine shares that this was one of the main reasons The Harvest Table fast-tracked their launch of their Vegan Collagen. “Our vision is to shift the lives of our customers positively by educating them and helping them to make better food choices daily. Through the launch of the Vegan Collagen, we are able to reach even more of the market, particularly in a time when they need it most!”

She explains that The Harvest Table’s Vegan Collagen has a base of organic pea protein and organic brown rice protein as well a blend of The Harvest Table’s trademarked, CollaVeg which is all-natural, from a plant source, and contains the same amount of Glycine and Proline as Bovine (traditional animal) Collagen.

CollaVeg is also a source of Bamboo Silica. “Silica is a mineral that is required by the body to produce Collagen. It is also an anti-inflammatory agent in the body. This powerful combination of ingredients means that vegans can now too experience the benefits of Collagen,” Catherine concludes.
