A Valley of 1000 Hills MyDurban selected video:
Kwa Zulu Natal’s Valley of 1000 Hills is one of the most beautiful places in our country. This week, The UTE Force find themselves at the community centre at the heart of this settlement.
The centre is not only a social hub for the town’s residents, but (with an unemployment rate of over 50%) it also feeds, educates, medicates and integrates more than half of the town.
The centre is comprised of 6 different units:
• A feeding scheme that dishes out more then 1200 meals a day.
• A primary health clinic, which gives more than 1500 patients free medical care every month.
• A community care base, complete with an ambulance service, support groups, counselling, baby crèche, toddler’s school and pre-school.
• A computer centre and Internet café.
• A library with adult literacy courses.
• A vegetable garden, complete with a skills development centre and craft shop.
This week, The UTE Force and Key Pinetown were able to completely renovate the Community Computer Centre, Internet café and Adult Learning centre (all of which take up two rooms).
