With tourism establishments and businesses on the KZN South Coast hit particularly hard during the pandemic, Ugu South Coast Tourism (USCT) has welcomed the implementation of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s (RNM) Economic Relief Plan which will alleviate the financial burden on business operations for the year December 2020 to December 2021.
Among the approved items include:
– The waiving of all business licence renewal and issuing fees from December 2020 to December 2021 for all legally trading businesses in possession of valid business licences.

– The changing of rates categorisation for BnBs, guesthouses and lodges to household-based rates fees, for the same period of time. This is only applicable to operators who have been trading legally, and who were in good rates’ standing as of April 2020.

Maxwell Mbili, Municipal Manager of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, added: “The Draft Economic Relief Plan, submitted to the Department Development Planning Services in November last year, has been adopted to address the social and economic devastation brought on by Covid-19. Ray Nkonyeni Municipality will continue to work closely with private and public sector to provide support for businesses and communities during these challenging times.”
