6 July 2014 by Alan

Clifford Ireland, NSRI Durban station commander, said; “At 08h45, Saturday, 05th July, NSRI Durban volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from the Durban Ski-boat Club reporting that the ski-boat NIPPER had requested them to alert the authorities after they had happened upon a body of a man floating offshore of Durban North.

“Our NSRI Durban volunteer sea rescue duty crew launched our sea rescue craft EIKOS RESCUER II accompanied by Police Search and Rescue officers and responded.

“The ski-boat NIPPER remained on the scene to point out the discovery to the arriving sea rescue craft.

“On arrival on-scene approximately 2 nautical miles off-shore of Durban North the body of an unidentified male, estimated to be aged in his 20’s, was recovered by Police Search and Rescue onto our sea rescue craft and brought to our Durban sea rescue base where the body of the man has been handed into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services by the Police.
