After Nqobile Nzuzua (aged 17 from Maphumolo) was shot dead by the police at a protest in Cato Crest this morning, the Abahlali baseMjondolo released this statement; “Comrades from other settlements have been arriving at Cato Crest all morning. There was a march on the police station in protest at the police murder of Nqobile Nzuzua. That protest, that peaceful protest, has now been attacked by the police with rubber bullets and water cannons.
Bandile Mdlalose has just been arrested. The ANC in the area have made public death threats against her. The police work for the ANC. We are worried about her safety. A number of comrades have been assaulted in police stations in recent days including Cato Crest and the Sydenham police station.”
