Umlazi and Florida Road on the map for The East Coast Radio Breakfast Tour – Featured Durban Blog

Channelling his inner rock star, Darren will travel with a 25-strong tour team on a customised, you-can’t-miss-it big, yellow tour bus. Natarah Nadesan, Mak Dlamini, Gabriel Sithole and producer Gorgeous George will all be part of the live broadcasts between 18 July 2014 and 29 July 2014.

“This tour is really a culmination of East Coast Radio wanting to say a HUGE thank you to all the unique people of KZN and to also acknowledge their role in making us who we are,” says East Coast Marketing Manager, Renée Burton. “The tour is the ideal platform to connect with audiences that don’t necessarily get an opportunity to interact with our presenters – sort of like bringing East Coast Radio to you when you can’t come to East Coast Radio!”

Darren, Natarah “Natarah From A-Far-Ra” Nadesan, Gabriel “Good Guy Gabe” Sithole, Mak “Big Mak Daddy” Dlamini and producer George “Gorgeous George” Thorne will be taking their three-hour show to Umlazi, Port Shepstone, Nottingham Road, Newcastle, Pietermaritzburg, Richards Bay, and Eshowe before bringing the curtain down on the tour in Florida Road.

As much as The East Coast Radio Breakfast Tour is about meeting listeners who are part of the East Coast Radio family, it is also a chance for the various towns to showcase their unique offerings; to remind the rest of KZN why they are so special and to highlight some of the phenomenal work that is taking place in various capacities around the province. It’s also a chance for Darren and the team to make new friends. Darren loves telling stories but he loves listening to them too, if you can get him to stop talking long enough to listen! You have three hours, between 6am and 9am, to make that happen.

Listeners will be actively involved in each leg of the tour – whether it’s a Braai Master contest in Richards Bay, a quest to find the best pancake maker on the South Coast, a war cry challenge between two schools in Eshowe, or the chance to watch world champs, the Kearsney College Choir in action in Pietermaritzburg.

The tour begins at Umlazi Mega City with Mayor James Nxumalo being part of the Mandela Day broadcast. Stars from the new SA movie, Hard To Get, will also be there.

The Grand Challenge also goes local. This popular feature on East Coast Breakfast with Darren Maule will be adapted for every leg of the tour, with the 10 questions being based on the area of broadcast. The rules of the game change slightly too so that only children between the ages of 9 and 12 will be able to take part in the game. You’re up first, Umlazi! Come say hi. We’d love to meet you.
