The move into adjusted Alert Level 4 under the Disaster Management Act on Monday, 28 June to curb the spread of the 3rd wave will unfortunately have an impact tourism establishments. Under the adjusted regulations, restaurants are prohibited from on-site sales, however, sales for off-site consumption of food and non-alcoholic beverages are still permitted. Ugu South Coast Tourism (USCT) is encouraging residents to continue supporting local eateries through takeaways during this challenging time.
“The introduction of adjusted Alert Level 4 regulations is a necessary measure to save lives, and to minimise the detrimental impact to our many tourism businesses, we’re reaching out to KZN South Coast residents and visitors to support our local eateries wherever possible,” said CEO of Ugu South Coast Tourism, Phelisa Mangcu.
“This has been an incredibly difficult time for everyone, and will undoubtedly continue to be tough-going for some time yet, but we can all do something to help. By ordering food, you’re playing a vital part in supporting our local tourism while enjoying the welcome flavours of your favourite eatery. We’re also fortunate that, along the KZN South Coast, we have so many incredible natural, open-air spaces to enjoy takeaway meals, including beaches, nature reserves, parks and whale watching decks. You could catch sight of the migrating whales – or even the ongoing Sardine Run – while grabbing a bite to eat!”

“The impact of Covid-19 on tourism has been substantial, and being a key tourism destination, the KZN South Coast needs all the local support we can give,” continued Mangcu. “We really encourage everyone to show community spirit during this time and support local. Together, we will get through this.”
