Two suspects shot and killed while other two were wounded during a shootout with police in the Durban CBD this morning.
It is alleged that today at about 01.30, the security guards who were on duty at one of the supermarkets in the CBD area were kidnapped and dropped at Isipingo area. The suspects forced entry into the premises and took an undisclosed amount of cash after cutting the safe open. Police received information and spotted a suspicious white Toyota Etios in the vicinity. The suspects allegedly fired shots towards the members and the members retaliated causing the suspects to lose control of their vehicle. Two suspects were found dead inside the vehicle and the other two were wounded and taken to hospital for treatment. Two unlicensed firearms and electrical detonators recovered. While the police were busy at the scene, they noticed another suspicious black VW Polo vehicle driving slowly passing the scene.
The said vehicle was stopped and searched. An unlicensed firearm, airtime vouchers and cash suspected to be taken during the robbery was also recovered. Two more suspects were then arrested. The arrested suspects are aged between 30 and 35. One of the deceased suspect’s is a police official stationed at Durban Flying Squad.
