Dolphins topple Warriors in T20 thriller:
Durban – The Hollywoodbets bounced back in the CSA T20 Challenge tournament under way at St. Georges Park in Gqeberha in empathic style with a thrilling victory over the GBets Warriors on Saturday.
The Durban side posted a massive, tournament-high 211/5 in their twenty overs, anchored by a quick-fire fifty from Grant Roelofsen and a bludgeoned 58 off just 26 balls from David Miller, and then ran through the home side to win by twenty runs.
Openers Bryce Parsons and Grant Roelofsen set about the Warriors bowling, posting 57 in the powerplay and adding 75 runs for the first wicket before Roelofsen’s cavalier 50 off 30 deliveries came to an end.
Khaya Zondo kept the momentum going with Parsons, taking the Dolphins to 110 in the twelfth over before both fell in quick succession.
That brought David Miller to the crease and the 32 year old left-hander sent the Warriors bowlers to all corners of the ground on his way to a breath-taking 58 from the 26 deliveries that he faced.
He got solid support from Andile Phehlukwayo who added 28 and helped take the Dolphins to 211/5 at their end of their twenty overs.
In their reply the hosts were under the cosh needing over ten runs per over and wickets fell at regular intervals.
Darryn Dupavillon uprooted the middle stump of the tournament’s top scorer Wihan Lubbe for just a single, the miserly Ottneil Baartman had the dangerous Matthew Breetzke caught behind and the canny Prenelan Subrayen sent Lesiba Ngoepe back to the change rooms stumped charging out of his crease.
Jason Smith got straight into the action taking the key wicket of Jon Jon Smuts with his first delivery, and then Diego Rosier two balls later, leaving the Warriors at 85/5 in the twelfth over.
The Warriors stayed in the match through Tristan Stubbs and their skipper Sinethemba Qeshile until Smith broke that partnership by clean-bowling the latter with the last ball of the sixteenth over, leaving the Warriors needing 67 off the last 18 balls of the match.
Despite a heroic rear-guard action 80 off just 30 balls from Tristan Stubbs, the Warriors chances of pulling off an improbable run chase faded in the last two overs, as the Dolphins death bowler Ottniel Baartman kept his nerve.
The win leaves the Hollywoodbets Dolphins well placed in the top three of the log at the early stages of the tournament.
Hollywoodbets Dolphins 211/5
D. Miller 58, G. Roelofsen 50, B. Parsons 39
GBet Warriors 191/6
