Terry Angelos Durban Artist: When art and personality collide, you know you’re in for an experience. When that experience is both whimsical and deeply emotional, you get a glimpse at the talent of a true artist. I have long admired the talent of Terry Angelos, a Durban watercolour and mixed medium artist, who has recently opened a little gallery space in The Commune, on Station Drive in Durban. Her work gravitates towards nature, with the latest collection showcasing a menagerie of flowers, leaves, succulents, sprigs, seeds and shapes, using watercolour and then pen to create a quirky, yet delicate representation of the natural world as she sees it. The gallery space at The Commune will showcase Terry’s latest original collections, as well as some pieces from previous ones – if you can pick up one of her mixed medium shadow boxes, do so! She will also be hosting art/therapy classes in the space, for anyone wanting to experiment with watercolour and pen – limited experience or not! Debonairs celebrates 25 years: I remember it clearly because, at the time, I was dating a guy who was friends with the founders. We thought they were a bit dippy – delivering pizzas in bow ties!? How on earth was that gonna fly in small town Durbs? But 25 years ago, two Maritzburg students went with their gut and started Debonairs Pizza. On Monday 28th November 2016 they celebrate opening the 600th Debonairs restaurant! Who can forget the thrill of being able to call, order and get a cute guy to deliver pizza to your door – for those of us who were teens then, it was awesome 🙂 Friday night pizza and movie parties were the highlight of our week! Things may have changed over the years, but what has remained is the same quick service, yummy pizza (the veg is my all time fave) and innovation unseen in most SA food brands.
