Suspected murderers of CPF Member to appear before court

12 August 2026 by My Durban

DURBAN – Zululand District police conducted an intelligence driven operation on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, regarding suspects linked to the murder of a Community Policing Forum (CPF) member Bonginkosi Mbatha (51) from Sizana area in Ceza. Mbatha was shot and killed at his home on 6 May 2026. The operation yielded positive results when the police arrested two suspects, both aged 30-years-old.

The first suspect was arrested at Hlobane area where he had allegedly visited his girlfriend. He led the police to KwaMnyathi area where a firearm and ammunition were hidden. Further investigations led to the arrest of the second suspect at his hideout spot in Ulundi.

The suspects will be joining a 25-year-old man who was arrested immediately after Mbatha was killed. They are expected to appear before the Vryheid Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.

The investigation into the murder of Mr Mbatha is continuing, and further charges may be added as the investigation progresses. The recovered firearms are subject to ballistic testing to determine if they are linked to any criminal activities.
