Strong finish key for Dolphins – Featured Durban Blog

Strong finish key for Dolphins:

Durban – Despite sitting comfortably in top spot of the Momentum One Day Cup log, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins will be looking to finish the round robin phase strongly when they take on the Imperial Lions at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Friday.

The Dolphins have lost just two games throughout the campaign and are eager go into the play-offs with another win under their belt. Coach Imraan Khan believes that the side isn’t focused on next week’s semi-final just yet.

“I think that what’s worked for us this tournament is that we have taken it game by game,” Khan said. “We haven’t looked too far ahead and we will do the same this week. We need to make sure we rectify the mistakes we made during the last game.

“Sometimes when things are going well you tend to forget about the small things that do go wrong so we learnt a lot from that last game that we played.”

The Lions are in second spot on the log and the Dolphins managed to beat them in their encounter at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium. Khan knows they are a strong side but won’t be too worried about their players and processes.

“We have made sure that we focus on ourselves and our execution, then we will be fine. We want to make sure that we concentrate on what we want to achieve first then we’ll be in a good position.”

Khan and his team will welcome back Daryn Dupavillon for the clash after the fast bowler made his Standard Bank Proteas debut against Australia over the weekend. Khan is happy that the players are being recognised at the highest level but appreciates the depth in the Dolphins squad.

“Squad depth is very important throughout a season and the guys who have stepped up have put their hands up which is crucial.

“We try and maintain a high standard here because I believe if we do that then we will perform well as a team,” Khan added.

There are two changes to the Dolphins team as Dupavillon returns in place of Keith Dudgeon and young Andile Mogakane comes into the squad replacing Sibz Makhanya.

Excitingly for Dolphins fans Kingsmead will host another 50 over competition semi-final next week, but should the Dolphins win that then the final of the Momentum One Day Cup will also be at Kingsmead next Saturday.

Hollywoodbets Dolphins Squad:
Sarel Erwee, Grant Roelofsen, Marques Ackerman, Cody Chetty, Khaya Zondo, Senuran Muthusamy, Rob Frylinck, Prenelan Subrayen, Okuhle Cele, Daryn Dupavillon, Andile Mogakane, Lifa Ntanzi, Thamsanqa Khumalo.
