Statement By Ethekwini Municipality Executive Committee – 20 October 2020

The EThekwini Municipality’s Executive Committee held its ordinary meeting today, 20 October 2020. The meeting, which was chaired by the Mayor Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda and attended by members of the Executive Committee took decisions on the following areas.

REVISION OF AN APPROVED ANNUAL BUDGET REPORT FOR 2020/2021: COVID_19 SPECIAL RATES RELIEF

The approval of a special rates relief from 1 July 2020ending 30 June 2021 for property owners categorised as Bed and Breakfast establishments and Guesthouses be revised in the annual budget report 2020/21. That Bed and Breakfast establishments and Guesthouses have an additional rebate of 14% and 39% respectively totalling to 64% for each property category. This relief would be granted by Council to all qualifying applications made by 30 June 2020.

FINAL IDP PROCESS PLAN 2020/2021

Approved the final IDP Process Plan 2021/22 together with the Council resolution to be submitted to the MEC COGTA KZN for their records.

PUBLIC CONSULTATION ENERGY STRATEGIC ROADMAP (ESR) AND ETHEKWINI INTEGRATED RESOURCE PLAN (EIRP)

Requisition for authority for the Energy Office to embark on a public consultation about the level of quality, impact and range of municipal services provided. The process seeks to evaluate the current energy resource portfolio and alternative future energy scenarios. This exercise captures the changing market conditions and ensures preparedness of a dynamic environment, where eThekwini can increase sustainability of energy provision.

REQUEST FOR AUTHORITY TO CONCLUDE A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE VERULAM HISTORICAL SOCIETY WITH REGARDS TO THE VERULAM HERITAGE CENTRE

Authority for the Head: Parks, Recreation and Culture to enter a Memorandum of Understanding with the Verulam Historical Society for the general management of the Verulam Heritage Centre which is Municipal property.

The above decisions are subject to approval at the next Full Council.
