Johannesburg, September 2018 – The highly anticipated Red Bull Box Cart Race is a global event for amateur drivers racing homemade soapbox crafts that are non-motorized and designed and built into outrageous, human-powered dream machines to compete against the clock in a downhill race.

On the 16th of September 2018, South Africa’s most innovative teams will race each other down the twists and turns of Sandton Drive in Johannesburg. Hoping to place their names in the history books, are Team War Rig, powered by Skullcandy.

The Skullcandy War Rig Team is comprised of four South African sports champions, all with fight in their blood and a common goal, to win the Red Bull Box Cart race and feel the GLORY.

For this momentous race, the War Rig is inspired by MAD MAX, a kick-butt battle-waging machine, designed to look fierce and animalistic, as it tears across the streets with all the ferocity of Furiosa, and driven by a cool crew of misfits, each possessing an extraordinary set of skills:

• Team Captain and Driver: Brian Capper (Enduro Motorbike Athlete)

• Co-Driver: Kerim Fritzgerald (Motor X Athlete)

• Pit Crew: Martin van Staden (EFC Fighter Athlete)

• Pit Crew: Courtnaé Paul (Beat Girl, Breakdancer, DJ)

Scullcandy War Rig

Team captain and driver, Brian Capper, is a committed, focused racer. Capper is an eleven-time South African Supermoto Champion and master of the Trials Bike. After retiring from Supermoto, Capper started racing on four wheels, off-road, for the Polaris and Imperial/Regent Insurance factory team – culminating his career with winning the Donaldson Cross Country Motor Racing Championship.

Capper’s Co-driver, Kerim Fritzgerald, is often considered the “usual suspect” – a fiercely competitive racer always in the mix for a podium finish. Fritzgerald started motocross racing at the tender age of 4 and has since gone on to claim numerous National MX Titles, as well as two top-ten finishes in the Canadian MX2 East National Championship.

Pit Crew Member, Martin van Staden, nicknamed The Punisher, is an all-round freestyle fighter and convincing finisher – he has over 27 fights under his belts with 14 TKO finishes. A full-time EFC fighter and one of South Africa’s top MMA athletes, Van Staden turned pro in 2008 and claimed his first EFC AFRICA title in April 2018.

Accompanying Van Staden is fellow Pit Crew Member, Courtnaé Paul, a successful break dancer, DJ and choreographer, who has worked with some of the best in the business. As a creative director, entertainment producer, choreographer and performer, Courtnaé has an extensive list of achievements in both the corporate and commercial world.

On the day, the Skullcandy War Rig will be all power, a precious commodity, an object to be worshiped and pampered as the Team fight to rise to Valhalla.
