ShowMax Summer Cinema Nights hit Durban: Saw these outdoor cinema evenings being advertised and thought how cool. Then saw that it’s ShowMax putting them on and thought how rad it is when brands get consumer activations right! I mean how amazing to get to watch an epic movie under the stars with popcorn in front of a big screen like back in the day! They’ve erected these pop up up open air cinemas across the country to reward subscribers who sign up for their R99/month subscription on their website. And they then get to watch one in a city near them this holiday season. They hit KZN next week, after heading up the coast from St. Francis. Going Dutch: Well not exactly. The Dutch in Umhlanga fell off my radar a bit in the last part of this year, but am so glad we popped in there recently to try out their tapas menu and have a few cocktails. Known more as a live music venue than a restaurant, The Dutch has a little bit of a reputation for it’s door policy – no slops or open shoes for guys and there’s usually a queue to get in when there’s a live gig, but understandably so to be honest. I’m not keen to hit the town and be shoved around at a bar by some lout in slops who’s come straight off the strip when I’ve gone out for a bit of a boogie. So I’m fine with the dress code. What I didn’t realise though was they have their own chef and kitchen and their menu is flipping amazing. It can be described as ‘fusion tapas’ with most dishes perfect for 2 and it’s best to order a few of them and share – my absolute favourite way of eating.
