Seven suspects are arrested in Durban

20 October 2014 by Alan

Seven suspects have been arrested for being found in possession of stolen property in two separate incidents over the weekend.

In the first incident members of Inanda Cluster Crime Intelligence and Greenwood Park Trio Crime Task Team arrested four suspects aged between 18 and 51 for being found in possession of goods suspected to be stolen.

Provincial police spokesperson Col Jay Naicker said members of the police were following information on a string of housebreakings and theft that had allegedly occurred in the Greenwood Park area.

He said the information gathered led them to the Durban City Centre where they spotted a truck loaded with various goods suspected to be stolen.

“The suspects were arrested and they led police to a house in Riverside where more goods including bicycles, tools, taps, counterfeit cigarettes, and jewellery were found,” Naicker said, adding four suspects were charged for possession of goods suspected to be stolen and will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lt-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the members for the arrests and recovery of the goods.

Meanwhile, Groenvlei police arrested three suspects aged between 26 and 47 for possession of stolen property worth R 14400.

Police spokesperson Capt Shooz Magudulela said: “Police were contacted and three suspects were arrested and the property seized.” He added the suspects’ GP registration bakkie was confiscated and taken to Utrecht police station.
