Members of the Wembezi Sector Team together with detectives embarked on a 12 hour operation arresting suspects as part of their festive season operations. The operation was conducted on Sunday 23 November 2014 in the Wembezi area where a total of ten suspects were arrested for various crimes like possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen property, house breaking and other crimes. During the operation members recovered the TV sets, micro-wave ovens, iron, kettle and other accessories. A total of 10 mandrax tablets were found in a suspect’s. The arrested suspects appeared in the Estcourt Magistrates’ Court this week.

In another operation, yesterday at 08:30, members of the Plessislaer Cluster Task Team, Flying Squad, Dog Unit, TRT, Plessislaer Detectives, Crime Prevention, Alexandra Tracing Team, Pietermaritzburg Tracing Team and the Provincial Traffic Enforcement Unit conducted a joint operation at Plessislaer and surrounding areas. During the operation eight suspects were arrested for business robbery, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. A 9mm pistol was also found in a suspects’ possession. All the arrested suspects who are aged between 24 and 33 will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, 27 November 2014.

The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the members for the arrests, seizure of illegal firearm as well as the recovery of the stolen property. “Such operations will continue throughout the festive season,” she said.
