The Durban Metro Police Service advises motorists that there will be road closures and lane restrictions on Sunday, 06 September 2026, due to the Iqwembu Cycle Challenge.
Motorists are advised to plan their trips, use alternative routes where possible and allow extra travel time.
Affected roads:
- Ruth First Highway Northbound at Sandile Thusi Road – Road closed. No traffic will be allowed northbound on Ruth First Highway.
- Ruth First Highway Northbound at Isaiah Ntshangase Road – Road closed. No traffic will be allowed towards Isaiah Ntshangase Road.
- Isaiah Ntshangase Road – Country Club Exit – Road closed towards Ruth First Highway. Traffic will be diverted west on Isaiah Ntshangase Road.
- Athlone Drive at Ruth First Highway Northbound On-Ramp Road closed. No traffic will be allowed northbound onto Ruth First Highway.
- Sandile Thusi Road Eastbound between Masabalala Yengwa Avenue and Ruth First Highway Left lane will be closed for cyclists.
- Masabalala Yengwa Avenue Southbound between Isaiah Ntshangase Road and Sandile Thusi Road – Left lanes will be closed for cyclists.
- Stalwart Simelane Street Northbound before Ruth First Highway – Lanes will be reduced.
Durban Metro Police officers will be deployed to assist with traffic control and to ensure the safety of cyclists and motorists.
Motorists are urged to drive carefully, follow traffic officers’ instructions and obey all temporary road signs.
