Renishaw Hills Raffle gives back to the community

2 December 2020 by My Durban

Renishaw Hills, a mature lifestyle village on the KZN South Coast, was awash with community spirit on Friday, 27th November as residents donated generously towards the Projects with a Purpose Christmas raffle, held at Mackaya Bella Community Centre. Established in 2018, Projects with a Purpose is a passionate group of volunteers from the Renishaw Hills community who put their knitting, crocheting and sewing skills to good use in an effort to help others. The organisation’s mission is to help underprivileged children by supplying warm blankets, clothing and food where possible.

The charitable team has been busy during lockdown, crafting incredible Christmas-themed items to be raffled. This year’s top prize was a beautifully made wooden nativity scene, won by an ecstatic Jacqui Robinson.

“We are so grateful to all the Projects with a Purpose members who’ve donated their time, money and skills for this worthwhile initiative, as well as to our wonderful Renishaw Hill’s residents who all generously supported the evening,” said Linda Melling-Smith of Projects with a Purpose. “An amount of R6205 has been raised, which will go towards Jona Vaughn Home in Amanzimtoti. It is a residential Care facility for 80 children and adults with profound intellectual and physical disabilities, all of whom come from different economic and cultural backgrounds. Many have devoted families while others have no family support or have been abandoned altogether. We’ve made gift bags which include facecloths, bars of soap and toothbrushes. We’re also looking at buying linen for the home.”

Phil Barker, on behalf of the board of Renishaw Hills Homeowners Association, extended his thanks to the members for another well-organised fund-raiser: “Projects with a Purpose is such an amazing example of the type of community spirit and supportive nature of this village. With Covid-19 wreaking havoc on so many members of the KZN South Coast Community, this year’s event is needed more than ever. We look forward to many more initiatives going into 2021.”
