Rain spoils Dolphins’ MODC home return – Featured Durban Blog

11 March 2017 by Alan

Rain spoils Dolphins’ MODC home return:

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins consolidated their top spot on the Momentum One Day Cup table and they had to settle for two points when their clash against the Warriors was abandoned due to rain at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead on Friday.

The Dolphins won the toss and chose to bat first and they got off to a brisk start with Morné van Wyk playing second fiddle to an imperious Vaughn van Jaarsveld who notched up his fourth half century of the current One Day Cup campaign.

The belligerent left-hander was eventually out for 85 when he hit one down the throat of long-off, however his opening partner Van Wyk continued past 50 and looked destined for another List-A hundred before he was caught behind off the bowling of Basheer Walters for 92.

A lengthy rain delay at the 15th over mark meant that the Dolphins were only given forty overs to bat and once the players returned captain Khaya Zondo stole the show as he punished the Warriors attack to all parts.

Zondo and Van Wyk put on 81 runs at a brisk rate with the captain scoring 47 not out from just 29 deliveries.

When the Dolphins’ innings was cut short at 36 overs the players could not get back out onto the field with the rain having the final say after the Dolphins had set an imposing 236/3 in 36 overs.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins will now travel to Potchefstroom to tackle the bizhub Highveld Lions on Wednesday, 15 March.
