The Municipality’s festive season operations have kicked in early this year; this is due to the fact that Durban is already experiencing an influx of visitors. The Municipality’s Festive Season Management Committee (FESMAC) has already had its first sitting to plan for the spring break holiday period up until 31 January 2015.
The Municipality is committed to ensuring that visitors have a safe and a memorable stay, and is therefore appealing to all visitors and patrons to adhere to the Municipal by-laws and to co-operate with the law enforcement officers during this busy period.
FESMAC has re-emphasised that public drinking and underage drinking is not allowed in any of the City’s beaches and public spaces. Those found to be in contravention of this by-law will be prosecuted.
Metro Police and other law enforcement agencies will increase patrols around all the City’s beaches and facilities. A traffic plan to eliminate traffic congestion especially around the Golden Mile is in place. Some of the roads and access points to beaches will be closed when the beaches are full.
The Municipality would like to advise those who are still making their way to the warmest place to be that they should book accommodation early as sleeping in buses and other vehicles is not allowed.
The Durban Solid Waste Department personnel will be on duty and will work extended hours to ensure that waste is collected and our beaches are always clean.
The Municipality urges bathers to swim within designated bathing areas, marked with red and yellow flagged beacons. Swimming hours are from 06h00 to 18h30 and swimming at night is dangerous as there are no lifeguards on duty then.
