Praying For Service Excellence And City Transformation

10 July 2026 by My Durban

Demonstrating its commitment to building a high-performing, caring, and resilient city, eThekwini Municipality today brought together its leadership, employees, residents, and spiritual leaders for a Prayer Walk.

The initiative sought divine guidance for employee wellbeing, financial stability, improved service delivery, and the continued transformation of the City.

Led by the Human Resources Directorate, the event united people of diverse faiths in prayer for ethical leadership, peaceful communities, economic growth, employee wellbeing, and a Municipality that continues to deliver quality services despite ongoing challenges.

The gathering underscored the Municipality’s belief that a spiritually grounded and motivated workforce is better positioned to serve communities with dedication, compassion, and excellence.

Deputy Chairperson of the Governance and Human Resources Committee, Councillor Ntando Khuzwayo, said the initiative served as a powerful reminder that faith remains a critical pillar in overcoming adversity and driving positive change.

“This intervention is critical because, without God, there is nothing we can do in these challenging times. The City is faced with a number of challenges, but we have seen God intervening. Today, we are witnessing the fruits of the prayers we made last year,” he said.

Councillor Khuzwayo said the initiative also seeks God’s guidance in strengthening the Municipality’s financial stability, improving service delivery, protecting employees, and building safer, thriving communities.

“Through faith and unity, we have overcome obstacles that once seemed impossible. This is about seeking God’s wisdom to guide our leadership, empower our employees, and position the City to deliver meaningful change in the lives of our communities,” he said.

The event reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to building a resilient, high-performing workforce.

Amid growing socio-economic and service delivery challenges, it symbolised a collective determination to inspire hope, strengthen communities, and drive transformation across eThekwini.

Acting Executive Director of the Corporate Services Department, Sihle Mkhize, said prayer-based wellness initiatives continue to strengthen employee wellbeing and organisational performance.

“The Prayer Walk has demonstrated the power of prayer in addressing service delivery challenges, improving productivity, and strengthening the overall performance of the City,” he said.

Mkhize said the Human Resources Directorate will continue to champion initiatives that promote employee wellness, resilience, and purpose.

“When employees are spiritually supported and inspired, they are better equipped to deliver services that transform lives and build stronger communities,” he added.
