Plenty positives for Dolphins ahead of season opener – Featured Durban Blog

21 September 2021 by My Durban

Plenty positives for Dolphins ahead of season opener:

Durban – The Hollywoodbets Dolphins have ramped up their preseason preparation as they eye their group phase of the CSA T20 Knock-Out Competition that takes place in Bloemfontein from 8-10 October.

The Dolphins have been involved in a number of preseason warm-up games against the neighbours the Hollywoodbets Tuskers in Pietermaritzburg, and Dolphins coach Imraan Khan has been happy with how the team has progressed.

“It was good to get into a competitive space again and I think that we grew into each game that we played,” Khan said.

“We started off a bit rusty, but that was to be expected, but by the end of the week we played some really nice cricket.

“Inland look like a solid unit and they have a very good squad of players and are looking good going into their group stage of the T20 Knock-Out next week.”

With the new season kicking off with a domestic T20 competition Khan knows that it is going to be an intense start to another long season for the Dolphins; but he’s confident that their preseason has given the players every opportunity to be ready for the new campaign.

“We want to work on what we learnt last week and put those into practice in the next couple of weeks and we are quite a thin squad at the moment with players with the SA Emerging side as well as the Proteas T20 World Cup bubble.

“We want to focus on our processes around the T20 version of the game and we know that it’s an intense format so we want to be ready and be nice and aggressive when we get going in a few weeks’ time.

“The spec of our squad is a lot younger this season so they are very motivated and determined to put in good performances through the season,” Khan added.

The Dolphins have been drawn in Pool C alongside the North West Dragons, Eastern Storm and the SA Under 19 side. Despite the new domestic structure that is coming into play this season Khan is confident he’ll know what to expect from the opposition.

“I’m hoping that our guys in the SA Emerging side that are playing SA Under 19 will be able to give us some good insight,” he laughed.

“We’ve got our information on the opposition and we will do as much homework as we can so I think that we will be as prepared as possible for those games coming up.”
