Due to repairs on a pipe blockage at Washington Heights and St. Wendolins Pump Stations, areas in the Pinetown south region will experience a water shut down tomorrow, 05 March 2015.
Extensive tests on one of eThekwini Municipality’s pump stations show a potential blockage in the pipework in the supply to the pumps. Unfortunately tests that have been conducted do not pin-point where the exact location of the suspected blockage is.
In order for operational staff to find and clear this problem, the Municipality needs to shut down the water supply to and from these two Pump Stations.
The Municipality has placed a generator-set at the St Wendolins (N) Pump Station, to combat the effects of power outages at this crucial pump station. The operational staff will utilise this same shut down time period to carry out the necessary electrical connections to and from the generator-set and electrical sub-station.
The areas that will be affected include the South of the Higginson Highway, the West of Chatsworth, as far as KwaNdengezi, incorporating Dassenhoek, Nagina, Tshelimnyama, Regency Park, Mariannhill, Coffee Farm, Welbedacht West, Intake Road and Demat Road.
It will take 24 hours for operational staff to find and clear the affected pipe before re-instating the water supply.
Water tankers will be sent out to all affected areas during the shutdown. The Municipality would like to apologise to all affected residents and business for the inconvenience.
