The Municipality wishes to inform members of the public that the paddling pools at the Central beachfront have been closed due to emergency maintenance work that has to be carried out at the pools.
The extremely hot weather conditions and high bather turnout during the festive season (minimum of 5 000 bathers at the paddling pools per day) has resulted in the filtration system being affected, thus causing a presence of high levels of ecoli in the water. It is therefore in the best interest of our users to drain the pools, clean them with the relevant chemicals and clean as well as disinfect all outlet pipings.
It is also necessary to clean the drainage system around the pools which is currently blocked and creating a “foul” smell.
It is estimated that the cleaning process will take approximately six days and two working days to refill the pool, starting today, 9 January 2016. Bathers are encouraged to use any of the nearby pools, including Laguna pools and South Beach paddling pools. The Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused.
