Our Heroines at Home!

23 April 2021 by My Durban

Do these sound familiar? – “I’m not asking you again”; “Whose SHE? The cat’s mother?”; “Eat your vegetables”; “Hurry up or we will be late for school”; “Have you looked under your bed”; “What have you done with my charger”; – the list is endless! However, what we all need to remember is that all the above is said with LOVE!!!

What would we do without our Moms? Let’s celebrate and acknowledge our true “home heroines”…at home! It’s quite the norm for most of us to gift our moms or mother figures with flowers and breakfast in bed. But why not think outside of the box this year?

Yes, you can bring breakfast in bed, clean the house, cook her a dinner, but “technically” we should do that regularly when you see she needs a bit of help. Even if it’s at least once a week – just to show your love and appreciation for all that she does!

Here are a few ideas for Mother’s Day this year, to help you make this one the best she’s ever had:

Being pampered – Situated at Granada Square in Umhlanga, we have Sorbet, who offers gift cards that she could use towards having her nails done or purchasing skincare products. Another idea would be to purchase a voucher from Simply Panache Hair & Beauty and allow your mom to have a mini makeover and feel fresh with a new haircut or hairstyle. And lastly, why not allow the experts at The Thai Touch, situated on the first floor, to work wonders for your mom, buy purchasing a voucher towards any of their Thai massages. And what’s even better is that The Thai Touch vouchers can be purchased online.

If you reside in the Durban North area, why not make your way to Park Boulevard and treat your mom with a gift card from TPO Hair & Beauty Wholesalers, where she will be able to purchase the finest in hair care products, from shampoos to conditioners, hair masques and treatments, at wholesale prices! While you’re there, head upstairs to Le Bua Spa and grab a voucher from their Spa or Hair Salon that she can use towards any of their treatments on offer.

No cooking – No mom wants to be stuck in the kitchen on Mother’s Day, organising breakfast, lunch and dinner for her family. It’s a day for her to sit back, relax and not have to think about when the next meal needs to be made.

If you live in the Springfield Park area, head to Springfield Retail Centre and either grab a takeaway for mom or treat her to a breakfast (or lunch) at Yiroll Caffe Bake. This amazing restaurant is widely known for their delicious baguettes and coffee, and offer a delicious array of choices with their breakfast & brunch menus. Whether a takeaway of dine in, you will not go wrong at Yiroll Caffe Bake.

If she’s not much of a breakfast person, and you live in Umhlanga, then Seattle Coffee Co is the place to visit. Grab her favourite hot beverage so she can enjoy a cuppa just the way she likes it!

If your family prefers a lunch or dinner, then we have just the places for you. Granada Square has some amazing restaurants that will bring a smile to your mom’s face. For a more relaxed vibe, there is Angelo’s, Mediterraneo or 2 on Main Restaurant and Sports Diner. For a more formal celebration, look no further than Little Havana, who offers a fine dining experience that will leave your heart and tummy happy.

Andrea’s Italian Café, based at Park Boulevard, has some amazing pizzas and pastas on their menu that will be sure to guarantee a return visit. And if you prefer Chinese over Italian this Mother’s Day, then you can’t go wrong with a meal at China Plate.

For our Springfield Retail Centre residents who enjoy a delicious curry or bunny chow, there is always Hollywood Bunny Bar!

There are many ways to celebrate our hardworking moms…but the best thing about this day is making memories that will last a lifetime.

Enjoy celebrating your moms this Mother’s Day at your favourite shopping centre, but don’t forget to follow all social distancing and sanitizing practices. T’s & C’s apply!
