SHARKS president Graham McKenzie said the clear picture of the racial row that rocked KwaZulu-Natal club rugby will only be revealed today after a council meeting that took place on Monday night.
Three complaints were laid against a player from Durban Collegians who was accused of using racial slurs against coaches and players during the KwaZulu-Natal club rugby season that ended last weekend.
A verdict on one of the cases has been reached but it has been appealed while the other cases will be heard on Wednesday.
McKenzie refused to talk about the details of the verdict.
“There are two cases that are currently under review and there is a third case that will be heard on Wednesday. The other one has been heard but we don’t have an answer at the moment. Until the process is completed‚ I can’t comment any further‚” McKenzie said.
“There is a verdict for another case but it is under appeal‚ which renders it meaningless. There has been a decision that has been taken by our legal group who hear these things.”
The incidents happened in the Moor and Murray Cup‚ the respective KwaZulu-Natal club rugby league and knockout competitions where a player from Collegians hurled insults at a Varsity College player during the league fixture.
The other two instances occurred in the Murray Cup quarterfinals and semifinals against aManzimtoti and College Rovers where a player and an assistant coach from the teams were insulted by the same player. – The Times
