Nice One Martin – Doing Entertainment PR Right

3 February 2025 by My Durban

The business of entertainment requires a laser focus amidst all the noise.

Sometimes it appears as though there are thousands of voices clamouring for your ears.

Imagine the quagmire that artists have to navigate in order to get noticed, booked and paid.

Just as when loadshedding was a daily occurrence and we had everyone and his dog claiming to be a solar and renewable energy expert, so too does it seem to be the same in the entertainment industry, with many untested fly by night agents and management companies popping up and sinking back down again.

To be an artist is a struggle enough.

Then to be an agent, a manager, a promoter and accountant at the same time is exhausting.

Martin Myers.

And the point of this maudlin rambling?

At the end of 2017 I met Martin Myers whilst covering The Volvo Ocean Race in Cape Town, and we swopped stories.

Now Martin was one of those guys who had always been on the periphery of my many lived experiences. One of which was a shared love of campus radio – he at UCT and I at Rhodes and UPE – too many years ago to mention!

Fast forward to 2025 – yup 7 and a bit years later and Martin decided that he was ready to use MyPR’s Featured Press Releases to help promote his artists.

Yup – Martin is like me: he takes his time and makes sure that he is doing the right thing every step of the way.

And so far? I am loving his featured press article contributions to MyPR as they definitely fit into the editorial policy by showcasing images and video to great effect.

About Martin Myers:

A UCT graduate, and founder of the NPC Music Exchange, publicist and music manager, Martin Myers began his career in the music industry running UCT Radio, at the University of Cape Town, back in 1985.

He graduated and headed towards the corporate world when the music business teased him away out of leftfield.

His big break came when Martin organised a gig for the legendary Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse at UCT in 1985. Their personal and professional relationship was established and has remained solid over the past 3 decades.

Boilerplate and Editor’s Notes.
