N2 shoot-out with cops

24 June 2015 by Alan

Durban – Two men were wounded and arrested after engaging in a shoot-out with police in Durban on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said members of the police’s provincial task team came under fire from four men when they stopped to offer assistance to what they thought was a broken down blue VW Polo on the N2 near the Higginson Freeway offramp.

As the officers approached the car, they were shot at and returned fire, injuring two of the four men.

Two men escaped on foot and the two who were injured in the shootout were arrested.

Zwane said the two men were taken to hospital in a stable condition.

The officers also seized two unlicensed firearms that would be sent for ballistic testing to see if they were used in the commission of other crimes.

Zwane said the two men, both aged 28, would appear in court soon and that he believed the two who had managed to escape would be arrested soon.
