EThekwini Municipality continues to implement urgent intervention measures to contain and mitigate the sewer overflow incident affecting Margaret Mncadi Avenue following technical failures at the Mahatma Gandhi Pump Station.
Repair work at the pump station remains underway following the identification of a fault affecting pumping operations.
Municipal sanitation teams, engineers, and specialist technicians are working round the clock to restore full functionality to the station as quickly as possible.
As part of ongoing mitigation efforts to reduce sewer overflows and minimise environmental impact, the Municipality has deployed tankering services to assist with the removal and management of wastewater while repair operations continue.
The Municipality is treating the matter with urgency, and every effort is being made to restore normal operations, protect surrounding infrastructure, and minimise disruption to residents, businesses, and visitors.
Acting Director of the Water and Sanitation Directorate Sibusiso Vilane said the City continues to undertake continuous monitoring of overflow points, as well as clean-up and disinfection operations.
The deployment of tankering services is assisting in alleviating pressure on the system while repair work continues.
