Mafikizolo set to sizzle in Durban at open-air concert

24 March 2016 by Alan

Mafikizolo set to sizzle in Durban at open-air concert:

Popular Afro-pop duo Mafikizolo will get spirits soaring this summer at the Old Mutual Music at the Lake picnic concert on Sunday, 18 October 2015, at Durban’s scenic botanical gardens.

Music lovers are invited to come and experience why this multiple South African Music Award-winning act has sold more than a million records and is still going strong, almost 20 years after the release of their self-titled debut album.

As ambassadors for Nelson Mandela’s 46664 campaign, these style icons and music trailblazers have toured the world and shared the stage with the likes of India Arie, Missy Elliot and Bono.

Concertgoers can expect to hear favourite hits such as Khona, Loot and the universally loved wedding song Ndihamba Nawe (named Song of the Decade at the METRO FM Music Awards) when Mafikizolo take to the stage at the Durban Botanic Gardens.

Old Mutual sponsorship manager Bandile Mngoma says the Music at the Lake picnic concerts have become an undisputed highlight on Durban’s recreation calendar, attracting the cream of South African music talent to eThekwini.

“For 170 years, Old Mutual has contributed to social development in South Africa by investing in local initiatives and supporting the development of home-grown talent. The events we support are diverse but the common denominator is that they help to build the rich cultural tapestry of our nation.

“Furthermore, the concert series is not only an opportunity to listen to some great South African music in the company of family and friends, but also contributes directly to conserving our national heritage as a portion of the ticket sales goes towards the maintenance and development of our beautiful national gardens.

“Mafikizolo is one of South Africa’s true crossover music acts, generating adoration across the audience spectrum and flying the flag high internationally as music ambassadors for our country. We look forward to Nhlanhla and Theo taking the gardens by storm with their infectious, uplifting grooves!” adds Mngoma.

Mafikizolo’s Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert is sure to be one of the hottest tickets in Durban this summer, so book early to soak up some blue-chip music in the summer sun. Bring cooler boxes, picnic baskets and blankets, or buy refreshments at the venue. Kids can enjoy the expanse of the picturesque gardens as well as activities galore at the Kidzone.

Gates open at 12h30 for pre-sold tickets (R140 for adults, available through www.webtickets.co.za) and at 13h00 for on-the-day ticket sales (R160). Children aged eight to 12 pay R60; under-eights get in free.
