Durban sports supporters are in for a treat this May. Varsity College Durban North will host its first annual Sports Experience alongside the Fidelity Derby Day on 16 May 2015 where the Varsity College Rugby Club will play against SA Home Loans Durban Collegians and the Varsity College Hockey Club will take on Gongs at Riverside Sports Club. The games will commence at 13h00 with the Super League hockey matches kicking off at 16h00 and the main rugby match taking place at 17h30.

“At Varsity College we believe the student experience extends beyond the lecture room. Our philosophy focuses on the holistic development of the student and we encourage a healthy balance between studies, part-time work and participation in a variety of sports, social, cultural and community engagement initiatives. All three of our KZN campuses namely; Durban North, Pietermaritzburg and Westville will be there in full force to support our VC teams” says Carole Adam, National Sports and Social Manager at Varsity College.

Varsity College’s involvement with rugby has taken an exciting new step with the introduction of Varsity College’s own Rugby Club called, Varsity College RFC based at the Durban North campus.

The Varsity College Hockey Club launched last year with a bang, with two men’s and two ladies teams entering the KZNHA leagues. The Varsity College Men 1st team won the club’s first ever trophy on 3 May 2015, after being crowned winners of the prestigious Battle of the Giants, a great platform to launch their outdoor Super League season.
In addition to watching top class KZN club rugby and hockey action, there will be many more festivities on the go; fun challenges during halftime, Soviet spot prizes, jumping castle for the kids, drinks specials and food stalls.

“We’re delighted to have partnered with Soviet for this event. The sponsorship has provided great added value for our students and the public. We’re looking forward to hosting as many sports supporters as possible on the day.” adds Carole Adam.
